Artist Statement:
Since childhood, I’ve been into art, music and fashion. Growing up as an only child, I spent numerous time sketching alone and studied music and piano since the age of six. My mother is a self-taught artist and teaches patchwork, so she taught me basic drawing. Fashion magazines were also huge influence for me and I learned chromatics, design, and sculpture at Nagoya University of Art in Japan. My artworks explore hybrid figures of those elements in my life. I often use textile patterns for paintings because I grew up looking at many textile materials that my mother collected and used for her patchworks. It’s not so important if my paintings are abstract or figurative. The most important element of my artworks is whether those colors and figures create unique rhythm for the entire image that genuinely excites me to look at.
