Laurie De Chiara

Laurie De Chiara, a New York City native, is an independent curator/ former gallerist with an MA in Contemporary Arts & Arts Management. De Chiara has been a creative force in the arts world for more than two decades. In 1997, she founded the De Chiara|Stewart Gallery in NY’s Chelsea district, before relocating internationally and establishing Galerie müllerdechiara in Berlin, Mitte in 2001.
Her ongoing independent curatorial practice ranges in scope from the traditional to the unconventional. Her exhibitions have been presented in galleries, public parks, art centers, and domestic settings, from across the USA to Denmark, Mexico City to Italy, Berlin to Bangkok.
In 2010, De Chiara established ArtPod (artpod.org), a socially engaged not-for-profit in Berlin with a focus on creating large-scale accessible art experiences and commissioned exhibitions. After 13 years in Germany, in 2015, she returned to the USA and established De Chiara Projects and, in 2019, ArtPort Kingston with her partner Stefan Saffer to continue to evolve her curatorial practice.
