Join us on Saturday, June 7; 2-4PM for a public performance by the award-winning woodwind trio Hot Wrk Ensemble amidst the artworks and garden exhibition!
ABOUT THE ARTIST(S)
Hot Wrk Ensemble is a saxophone/woodwind and percussion trio founded in 2020 by award-winning and innovative saxophonists Lois Hicks-Wozniak and Brad Hubbard. The group explores, deconstructs and “wrks out” concepts of traditional chamber music and the concert experience by engaging communities to interact with and partake in the creation process.
Their performances can include everything from contemporary art music, jazz, world music styles to early Baroque, and arrangements of popular selections by Dolly Parton, The Beatles and more. Expect the unexpected! Hot Wrk has presented at the Beacon Bonfire Festival, Beattie-Powers Place, Concerts Con Brio, CRS: Center for Remembrance and Sharing (NYC), Elysium Furnace Works, Howland Cultural Center, the Players Theatre (NYC), Savage Wonder Festival, SUNY Schenectady, the Wallkill River Center for the Arts, and many public libraries in the Hudson Valley.
The ensemble is performing free concerts during Spring 2025 at libraries and community centers throughout Dutchess and Ulster County. These performances are part of the Arts and Culture Projects Grant, made possible with funds from the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson. Performances include a May 31 performance at Olive Free Library, West Shokan, NY; ArtsPort Kingston and Old Dutch Church, June 7; and a Juneteenth celebration at the Poughkeepsie Library Family Partnership Center, Lateef Islam Auditorium, June 21.
Hot Wrk Ensemble is pleased to partner with percussionist, Angel Michael Lau, for these performances, and to have special guest artist - jazz violinist, composer and Guggenheim Fellow - Gwen Laster join them for concerts at the Old Dutch Church and Poughkeepsie Library.
Come for the music and art, stay for the community!
